Abstract

The National Health Insurance (JKN) program faces the challenge of premium arrears among self-enrolled participants, particularly in Alam Barajo Subdistrict, which has the highest amount of arrears in the city of Jambi. This situation is related to participants’ willingness to pay and ability to pay their premiums. This study aims to identify the determinants associated with willingness to pay and ability to pay JKN premiums among self-enrolled participants in Alam Barajo Subdistrict. The study employs a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional observational design. The study population consists of residents of Alam Barajo Subdistrict, with a sample of 106 self-enrolled JKN participants selected using cluster sampling. Data were collected via a questionnaire and analyzed using the chi-square test with a significance level of 0.05. Education was not associated with willingness to pay, whereas knowledge, income, history of catastrophic illness, and service quality were associated with willingness to pay. Education and income were associated with Ability to Pay. Willingness to pay JKN premiums was influenced by knowledge, income, history of catastrophic illness, and quality of service, while ability to pay was influenced by education and income.
